Worked out from Hodgdon J.A. & Beckett M.B., Prediction of percent body fat for U.S. Navy men and women from body circumferences and height, Naval Health Research Center Reports 84-11 and 84-29 - the DoD circumference equations and 6 other sources.
Height, neck and abdomen circumferences are all needed for the male circumference equation.
No body-fat limit was entered, so no pass or fail could be given. The limit varies by service, age and sex and must be read off the current table.
The circumference method is a screening estimate with a standard error of several percentage points. Only a trained grader following the service measurement protocol produces a figure of record.
No edition of the standards was recorded. Note which order and change number the figures came from; the services revise them regularly.
This is an unofficial practice estimate. Only your unit’s current official scorecard and a certified grader produce a score of record, and only a medical provider can interpret body composition. Standards change: always read the minimum and maximum figures off the edition of the order in force for your test date.
