Worked out from Franchise Tax Board, 2025 California Tax Rate Schedules and 22 other sources.
Flat 4.25% for 2026: Treasury's 15 April 2026 notice confirms that FY2025 general fund revenue fell 1.56% while inflation rose 2.70%, so the MCL 206.51(1)(c) rate-reduction formula does not apply and "the rate in effect under Section 51 for the 2026 tax year is 4.25%". Personal exemption $5,900 per exemption for 2026 (up from $5,800). Michigan has no general standard deduction. Roughly two dozen Michigan cities (including Detroit, Grand Rapids and Lansing) levy municipal income taxes; see localities.states_with_local_income_taxes.
An estimate from each state's published rate schedule. State credits, add-backs, part-year and non-resident apportionment, and local taxes other than New York City are not modelled. Check your state return or a tax professional before relying on it.

How this is worked out

5 steps
  1. Michigan (tax year 2026): Michigan starts from federal AGI with Michigan additions and subtractions.
  2. Income 85000 less deduction 0 and exemptions 5900 = taxable income 79100
  3. Exemptions: 5900 for the taxpayer(s)
  4. 4.25% on 79100 (0 to and above) = 3361.75
  5. Total state and local tax = 3361.75
