Peptide Reconstitution Calculator

The labelled mass of lyophilised peptide in the vial.
Volume of diluent you reconstitute the vial with.
The prescribed dose, expressed in the unit selected below.
International units (IU) are not supported: the IU-to-mass factor is specific to each peptide assay.
Used only to flag a dose that will not fit in one draw.
Set to 0 if you only want the per-dose figures.

Worked out from IUPAC Compendium of Chemical Terminology ("Gold Book"), mass concentration - the mass of a component divided by the volume of the mixture and 2 other sources.
Preparation arithmetic only. It is not a dose recommendation and does not check the drug, its stability, the diluent or the route. Every reconstitution and dose must be confirmed by the prescribing clinician or pharmacist against the product labelling before use.

How this is worked out

5 steps
  1. Concentration = 5 mg / 2 mL = 2.5 mg/mL (2500 mcg/mL).
  2. Dose = 250 mcg = 0.25 mg.
  3. Volume to draw = 0.25 mg / 2.5 mg/mL = 0.1 mL.
  4. U-100 syringe: 0.1 mL x 100 units/mL = 10 units.
  5. Doses per vial = 5 mg / 0.25 mg = 20.
