Disability VA Calculator

Percentages for each service-connected condition, in any order. Enter paired-extremity conditions in the bilateral field instead.
Ratings for disabilities of both arms, both legs or paired skeletal muscles. These are combined together first and get the 10% bilateral factor.

Worked out from 38 CFR 4.25 - Combined ratings table and 2 other sources.
VA converts to a multiple of 10 only once, at the end of the rating decision; intermediate Table I values are whole numbers, not multiples of 10.
This reproduces the arithmetic of 38 CFR 4.25 and 4.26. It is not a rating decision: only VA can assign ratings, and special provisions (SMC, TDIU, protected evaluations, amputation rule) are not applied here.

How this is worked out

4 steps
  1. Order of severity: 50%, 30%.
  2. Most severe disability: 50%.
  3. Combine 50% with 30%: 30% of the 50% remaining efficiency is 15, so 50 + 15 = 65 -> 65%.
  4. Convert once to the nearest degree divisible by 10: 65% -> 70% (values ending in 5 are adjusted upward).
