Updates as you type
One field for everything: "A:3, B+:4, C:3" (grade then credit hours), or the general weighted-average form "90, 3, 80, 2" where grade and weight alternate. Leave blank to use the separate grade and credit fields below.
Comma-separated letter grades, or numeric grade points.
Credit hours (units) for each course, in the same order. Leave blank to weight every course equally.
Letter:points pairs, used when the scale above is set to Custom.
Your cumulative GPA so far. Leave blank if you only want this term.
Optional. Set it to your school's good-standing threshold (often 2.0) or the GPA you are aiming for, and the engine reports whether you are there and how many more credits at the top grade it would take.

How this is worked out

8 steps
  1. Scale: Unweighted 4.0 scale with plus/minus.
  2. A -> 4 points x 3 credits = 12
  3. A- -> 3.7 points x 3 credits = 11.1
  4. B+ -> 3.3 points x 4 credits = 13.2
  5. B -> 3 points x 3 credits = 9
  6. Quality points = 45.3; credit hours = 13.
  7. GPA = 45.3 / 13 = 3.484615
  8. Cumulative = (3.2 x 45 + 45.3) / (45 + 13) = 3.263793

College Board - How to Convert Your GPA to a 4.0 Scale
Source for the plus/minus 4.0 scale (A+/A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D- = 0.7, F = 0.0) and the letter-to-percentage bands used with it.
National Association of Secondary School Principals / common US district practice - the 10-point and 7-point percentage grading scales
The 10-point scale (A 90-100, B 80-89, C 70-79, D 60-69, F below 60) is the dominant US convention; the 7-point scale (A 93-100, B 85-92, C 77-84, D 70-76, F below 70) is used by a minority of districts. Both are published district policy rather than a national standard, so the engine lets the user edit the cut-offs.
