Only the waist-to-hip cut-point differs; the waist-to-height bands are the same for everyone.
Both are always worked out; this only chooses which is the headline.
Midway between the lowest rib and the top of the hip bone, at the end of a normal breath out.
Around the widest part of the buttocks.

How this is worked out

4 steps
  1. Waist-to-hip = 80 ÷ 100 = 0.8
  2. Waist-to-height = 80 ÷ 170 = 0.47
  3. 0.47 falls in the NICE band "Healthy central adiposity" — Below 0.5: no increased health risks from central adiposity.
  4. Hip is measured around the widest part of the buttocks; waist midway between the lowest rib and the top of the hip bone.
