Sources and references

3 sources
United States Bowling Congress - Playing Rules (Rule 3, Scoring; Rule 4, Legal Pinfall)
A spare scores ten plus the pinfall of the next delivery; a strike scores ten plus the pinfall of the next two deliveries; ten frames per game, with extra deliveries in the tenth so a mark there can be scored.
World Bowling / International Bowling Federation - Statutes and Playing Rules, ten-pin scoring
The same three scoring rules and the 300 maximum from twelve consecutive strikes.
United States Bowling Congress - Handicap and average rules
League handicap is a percentage of the difference between a basis score and the bowler's average, dropped to the whole pin and never negative. The basis and percentage are set by the league, so both are inputs here.

What the bowling score calculator calculates
