Your figures

Updates as you type
One letter per night of the cycle: A for the first parent, B for the second. Any length.
The date the pattern’s first letter applies to. Most rotations are written from a Monday.
The night starting on this date is not counted, so a year runs from a date to the same date.

How this is worked out

4 steps
  1. Rotation: 2-2-3 rotation, written as AABBAAABBAABBB from 2026-01-05 (a Monday).
  2. Within one 14-night cycle the split is 7 to 7.
  3. 2026-01-05 to 2027-01-04 spans 364 days, which is 364 overnights - the night beginning on the end date is not counted.
  4. Counting each night against the pattern gives 182 for parent A and 182 for parent B, or 50% / 50%.

Its 4 worked examples are re-run on every release, last on 15 September 2026. What changed

What the parenting time calculator calculates

Counts each parent’s overnights over a period under a repeating custody rotation - week on/week off, 2-2-3, 2-2-5-5, 3-4-4-3, every other weekend, or a pattern you write out - and reports the split as a percentage and as overnights a year. Overnights are the unit because child-support guidelines are written in overnights, not hours, and a period from the 1st to the 8th contains seven of them.
