The scheme allows 500 to 150000 rupees a financial year.
The PPF rate is notified quarterly by the Ministry of Finance. Enter the current rate; no rate is bundled with this calculator.
A PPF account matures after 15 full financial years and may then be extended in blocks of 5.

How this is worked out

5 steps
  1. Rate = 8% a year, so 0.666667% is accrued each month on the qualifying balance.
  2. Deposits land on or before the 5th, so each one earns interest from the month it is made (scheme paragraph 10).
  3. Interest accrued through the year is credited in one lump at the end of the financial year, and only then compounds.
  4. Total deposited over 15 years = 2250000; interest = 2148642.46.
  5. Balance after 15 years = 4398642.46.
